She brings a wealth of experience to the job, having worked as a medical/surgical nurse at Hunt Region Medical Center and Texas Health Rockwall. She utilized her leadership abilities by serving as a charge nurse and as a preceptor for new nurses helping them acclimate to a new career or a new environment and helping them acquire the confidence to give each patient the best possible care. Sherri served on various committees not only to provide a voice for nursing staff but also to create awareness of technology, processes and procedures.
Sherri is excited about this opportunity and ready for the challenge.
Having raised five children, they often expressed fear in new life experiences and I always told them, “I know you are afraid, but do it afraid.” Cano said.
Superintendent Sharon Boothe said Cano's experience and Greenville connections make her an ideal fit for this important role.
"Sherri Cano is a gifted medical professional who has a heart for providing the very best health services for our students," Boothe said. "GISD enjoys strong partnerships with Carevide, Hunt Regional Healthcare and a number of medical practitioners in the community. I know that she will continue to build on those partnerships, which will benefit our students, families and community as a whole."
Cano grew up in Rains County. She received her associate's degree in nursing from Paris Junior College and is licensed as an RN.
She has been a resident of Greenville for 30 years and is familiar with many of our resident families. She has been married for 35 years, is a mother of five and proud grandmother of eight.
"When you’re a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours,” Cano said.
