GREENVILLE, Texas — Students from Greenville High School delivered strong performances in this year’s Academic UIL competitions, earning top finishes at the district level and advancing to regional competition.

Academic UIL gives students the chance to compete in a wide range of events, including writing, spelling, mathematics and science, testing both knowledge and performance under pressure.

Seniors Mia Wilcock, Damien Tennison and Sophia Kailukaitis represented Greenville High School in multiple events at the district meet.

Kailukaitis placed fifth in Ready Writing, an event that challenges students to craft a well-organized response to a prompt within a limited time. In spelling, Wilcock earned fifth place, while Tennison placed third, securing a spot at the regional competition.

Tennison went on to compete against top qualifiers from across the region at the next level.

Students also participated in additional UIL categories this season, including mathematics, science and calculator applications, contributing to the program’s continued growth on campus.

The team prepared under the guidance of UIL coach Karon Jones and campus UIL director Amber Davis, often meeting outside of regular school hours to practice and refine their skills.

“We had students show up, put in the time, and really take advantage of the opportunity to compete,” Jones said. “At the end of the day, it’s about giving your best effort, and they did exactly that.”

School officials say the program continues to expand, providing more students with opportunities to challenge themselves and succeed academically beyond the classroom.
