On Saturday, August 16, 2025, Sulphur Springs police arrested a mother and daughter on drug charges following a traffic stop.
At approximately 12:27 p.m., an officer stopped a GMC pickup truck in the 600 block of Gilmer Street. After the driver refused consent for a vehicle search, a K-9 unit from the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene. The K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics, leading to a search of the vehicle and immediate area.
Investigators located a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, weighing approximately 0.47 grams with packaging, along with an unidentified blue pill. The items were found on the ground within the immediate area of two passengers.
Because the traffic stop occurred within 722 feet of Austin Academic, a school, the possession charge carries a drug-free zone enhancement.
The suspects were identified as Brandi Michelle Cahoon, 44, of Quitman, and Courtney Mckayla Cahoon, 22. Courtney had been arrested previously for assaulting an officer.
