LAMAR COUNTY, Texas – Two suspects were arrested Thursday morning, August 21, following a multi-agency pursuit that ended in Lamar County.
Around 5:00 a.m., Commerce Police notified the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office that officers were in pursuit of a vehicle entering the county along Highway 24. Deputies responded and successfully deployed spike strips near the 2900 block of the highway, forcing the vehicle into a ditch.
The occupants, identified as 51-year-old Jaqueline Garza and 34-year-old Brian Shores, fled on foot into a wooded area. Shores was taken into custody after a brief search, but Garza initially evaded officers.
Additional agencies arrived to assist, including the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) K-9 unit from Bonham, which deployed tracking dogs. Lamar County Emergency Management also used drones during the search. Out of caution, Chisum ISD was placed on lockdown until Garza was located.
Garza was eventually found hiding in a creek bed under a tree and taken into custody without further incident.
Both Garza and Shores were transported back to Hunt County by Commerce Police, where they will be booked into the Hunt County Jail. Commerce PD will file all charges.
The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office thanked multiple partner agencies, including Paris Police, DPS Troopers, TDCJ K-9, Lamar County Constables Precincts 2 and 4, and Lamar County Emergency Management, for their coordinated response.
