The Greenville ISD Iron Lions have emerged as National Champions in the Advanced Division of the Solar Car Challenge. The race, originally scheduled for 7 days, was cut short due to unforeseen circumstances, resulting in the Iron Lions being awarded their 7th National Championship and their first-ever in the Advanced Division.
The Iron Lions, known for their leadership and problem-solving abilities, consist of students who specialize in Electrical, Mechanical, Logistics, Strategy, or Media roles. They apply Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to design, build, and race a roadworthy solar car, striving to contribute to a sustainable future.
The Solar Car Challenge, established in 1993, aims to motivate students in science and engineering while promoting alternative energy awareness. It provides high school students worldwide with an opportunity to build roadworthy solar cars and compete in the annual challenge.
