Two Suspects Arrested in Connection to Fentanyl Overdose Death

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office has made significant progress in a case involving the tragic death of Brayden Wooten, 21, due to a Fentanyl overdose. Wooten was found deceased at his residence on December 23, 2023, with the cause of death confirmed by the American Forensics Medical Examiner in Mesquite, TX.

Following an investigation, two suspects have been taken into custody in connection to Wooten’s death. Bryson Lacy, 21, was charged with tampering with evidence for deleting text messages related to the incident, while Xavier Hill, 23, and Lacy both face charges of murder for their involvement in supplying the Fentanyl pills that led to Wooten’s death.

Sheriff Lewis Tatum emphasized the severity of the charges, stating that Texas law holds individuals accountable if narcotics they supply contribute to someone’s death.

In a coordinated effort with the Sulphur Springs PD SWAT Team, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the residence of Marques Hood in Commerce. Hood, suspected of supplying the deadly Fentanyl pills, was found with approximately 1200 laced pills valued at $12,000, along with two firearms, including an AK-47 style rifle and a Glock pistol.

Hood was transported to the Hunt County jail and faces charges of manufacturing and delivering narcotics, as well as murder in connection to Wooten’s death.

Sheriff Tatum reaffirmed the commitment to maintaining public safety by actively enforcing drug laws and apprehending those who violate them.
