ROYSE CITY, Texas - A student was taken into custody Tuesday after allegedly bringing a firearm to the Royse City ISD Alternative Learning Center, according to the Royse City Police Department.
Police said they were contacted by Royse City ISD on Aug. 25 after officials discovered that a student had brought a firearm onto the campus.
The weapon had already been secured by RCISD Security before Royse City Police became involved, authorities said.
The Alternative Learning Center is a specialized program operating inside the Royse City ISD Administration Building at 810 Old Greenville Road. According to police, the program serves approximately 50 students in grades nine through 12.
The juvenile accused of possessing the firearm was taken into custody and charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, which police identified as a third-degree felony.
Authorities did not release the student's age or identity because the suspect is a juvenile.
