WEST TAWAKONI, Texas - Firefighters from several departments worked together Monday afternoon to contain a structure fire in West Tawakoni after local firefighting resources were already committed to another brush fire.
East Tawakoni Fire Rescue was dispatched at approximately 3:50 p.m. on Aug. 24 to provide mutual aid for what was initially reported as a brush fire in West Tawakoni.
Before East Tawakoni crews left their station, the West Tawakoni fire chief advised them that his department had no units available in the district because personnel were already working another brush fire.
East Tawakoni Fire Rescue responded with two brush trucks.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered the incident was not a brush fire as originally reported. Instead, flames were affecting a small shed and a portion of a garage.
Multiple Fire Departments Called to Scene
Because firefighters were dealing with burning structures rather than vegetation, East Tawakoni requested additional tender support and immediately began suppression operations.
East Tawakoni crews were able to contain the blaze while additional mutual aid resources responded.
Firefighters from the West Tawakoni Fire Department, South Hunt County Fire Rescue and Tawakoni South Fire Department joined East Tawakoni personnel in extinguishing the remaining fire and conducting mop-up operations.
The combined crews eventually brought the fire under control and secured the scene.
East Tawakoni Fire Rescue cleared the incident at approximately 4:51 p.m., about an hour after the initial dispatch, and returned to service.
No injuries were reported in the information released by the department. The cause of the fire and the extent of the property damage were not disclosed.
