Sugar Land Man Arrested in Hopkins County for Identity Theft Targeting Elderly Victims

James Sampy

On October 25, 2023, Hopkins County Sheriff Deputies arrested James Calvin Sampy of Sugar Land, Texas, on charges related to identity theft targeting elderly individuals. The charges against Sampy include fraud, unlawful use of identification information, and the possession of items connected to the crime.

Sampy's arrest followed a series of incidents where he allegedly exploited the identities of elderly victims. He is accused of using their personal information to commit fraudulent activities. Authorities have specified that the number of affected victims is fewer than five.

Upon his arrest, Sampy was taken into custody and has been assigned a bond of $150,000, pending further legal proceedings.

This recent arrest is not the first time Sampy has faced charges related to theft and forgery. On June 25, 2023, he was apprehended by officers from Mineola Police and charged with theft and forgery. In that instance, Sampy posted a bond of $6,500 to secure his release from jail.
