Greenville Woman Dead in Fatal Head-On Collision on FM 1570

On October 14, 2023, at approximately 9:50 a.m., a collision involving two motor vehicles occurred in the 8800 block of FM 1570, also known as Jack Finney Boulevard. The Greenville Police Department responded to a report of the incident and dispatched an Accident Investigator to the scene.

Preliminary findings from the Accident Investigator's initial investigation indicate that a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling southbound towards Interstate 30 and attempted to pass another southbound vehicle. The driver of the Suburban reported that the vehicle they were passing accelerated, leading to both vehicles entering a curve in the roadway, which was designated as a no-passing zone. At this point, a Chevrolet Trax was traveling northbound on the same road. To avoid a collision, the Trax swerved to the right (east) shoulder of the road. However, despite the evasive maneuver, the Suburban and Trax collided head-on.

The driver of the Chevrolet Trax has been identified as Mary Ann Asbury, a resident of Greenville. She was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Kerry Crews at the scene. The passenger in the Trax was transported by Air Evac to Medical City in Plano for medical treatment.

The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban involved in the incident refused treatment at the scene.

Anyone with further information about this collision, please contact Accident Investigator C. Herron,#233, at (903) 453-0433 or by email at kherron@ci.greenville.tx.us.

The collision is still under investigation.
