Body of 5-year-old Missing Boy from Rains County Found in Pond

Sadly, the Rains County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the recently recovered 5-year-old that was reported missing in Rains County on Thursday is deceased.

On Thursday at approximately 6:10 pm Rains County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for service. The call for service was in regards to a missing five year old male child, from a residence located on FM 2737.

Information given by Rains County Sheriff's Office dispatch: "Missing five year old, four foot tall, non-verbal autistic male. Last seen wearing a teal shirt with Dr. Seuss character print."

When law enforcement arrived, an incident command was activated and a search was started. As the search continued more agencies arrived to assist.

At approximately 8:57 pm the search ended. A male child matching the description had been recovered in a pond on the property. The child was later identified as the missing child.

Officials have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The Rains County Sheriff's Office posted the following on their facebook page:

Our hearts are heavy regarding the result of yesterday evenings call for service. There are no words that I can convey to help all that were involved directly or indirectly in this incident.

My heart goes out to the family and all Rains County Citizens that this has affected.
