The Merit Volunteer Fire Department, along with assistance from neighboring departments, is currently battling a multi-acre brush fire near the intersection of County Road 1121 and Farm-to-Market Road 2194. The fire, which originated from a controlled burn left unattended, quickly spread, jumping fences and posing a threat to multiple structures in the area.
Several additional fire departments, including Celeste, Caddo Mills, Wolfe City, Farmersville, and Blue Ridge, have been called in to help contain the blaze. Ecorps Rehab and a Hunt County Fire Marshal are also on the scene, working alongside the responding units to bring the situation under control.
