A routine traffic stop by Sulphur Springs Police Department took an unexpected turn on September 28, 2023. Just before 1 pm, officers pulled over a vehicle at the intersection of College St and East Shannon Rd due to the absence of a front license plate.
Upon approaching the driver, identified as Joseph Collazo, officers asked him to exit the vehicle. During the inspection, law enforcement discovered a glass pipe commonly associated with methamphetamine use inside the car. Collazo consented to a search, leading officers to find a clear wrapper containing a substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
Collazo, a 46-year-old resident of Garland, was promptly taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County Jail. Subsequent testing confirmed that the substance found in his possession was indeed methamphetamine, weighing approximately 1.5 grams including packaging.
Collazo faces a charge of POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE PG 1/1-B >=1G<4G (F3), according to the Hopkins County Jail records.
