On June 27, 2023, at approximately 3:47 p.m., the Greenville Police Department received a report of a deceased woman in the median of the 6400 block of Interstate 30. Greenville Police Detectives were dispatched to the scene to investigate this tragic incident.
Working in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas, the investigative team was able to identify the deceased woman as 36-year-old Tabitha Landry from Waterproof, Louisiana. Landry's next of kin was promptly notified, revealing that she was a mother of two. However, it remains unclear why she was in the Greenville area on June 27.
According to Officials, Tabitha Landry's death does not appear to be the result of foul play or a motor vehicle accident, according to preliminary findings. The Dallas medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy but was unable to determine the exact cause of her death.
Who was Tabitha Landry?
Tabitha Landry's troubled history has been brought to light, including a previous restraining order filed by her ex-husband, Drake Landy, on June 25, 2020, citing alleged threats and substance abuse issues. According to court papers, Mr. Landry alleged that on June 20, "Tabitha threatened that she and her boyfriend would kill him (Drake) and take the kids away; she had been doing meth, alcohol, and pills". He also wrote on the petition that Tabitha was in Covington Behavioral Health for “calling cops and saying somebody cut up my kids and put them in trash can.”
Although the order was initially granted, it was later reversed due to procedural issues related to COVID-19 adjustments.
In another disturbing incident on July 19, 2021, Tabitha Landry was arrested in West Monroe, Louisiana, for breaking into a residence and assaulting three children who lived there. The victim reported that Landry entered the house, and when confronted, she attempted to flee, resorting to hitting and kicking the children. She was arrested on suspicion of simple burglary and three counts of cruelty to juveniles.
Furthermore, on December 26, 2021, Tabitha Landry faced arrest in Hunt County, Texas, for evading arrest with a previous conviction.
While Tabitha Hope Landry's life was marked by numerous troubling incidents, her sudden and unexplained death continues to be a mystery.
The investigation is ongoing.
