Sulphur Springs ISD Addresses Sewer Drain Collapse at Rowena Johnson Primary

The Sulphur Springs Independent School District (ISD) has issued a statement today in response to a sewer drain collapse that occurred beneath the foundation of the Rowena Johnson Primary (RJP) school building. According to the statement, the incident is attributed to the building's age and the deterioration of its pipes, resulting in the unfortunate closure of the girls' bathrooms located in the main hallway.

The girls' restroom in the main building has been rendered unusable due to the sewer drain collapse. Repairs to address the issue would necessitate chiseling into the foundation, potentially leading to the closure of at least a portion of the building. Such a closure could cause significant disruption to the students and staff at RJP.

To minimize the inconvenience and ensure continued access to essential facilities, the school district has decided to convert an office space into temporary restroom facilities for students. This conversion process is estimated to take approximately 30 days. During this period, a portable restroom trailer equipped with heating, air conditioning, and sinks will be provided on the school premises to meet the restroom needs of students.

The Sulphur Springs ISD expressed gratitude in advance for the patience and understanding of students, staff, and parents as they work through this necessary process.
