In the early hours of September 7, 2023, Sulphur Springs Police Department officers responded to a call regarding a possible suicidal female at an address on Pampa St. Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered Shyann Watts, 18, who appeared distraught and aggressive, according to the arrest report.
To ensure her safety and the safety of others, officers proceeded to secure Watts in handcuffs. However, the situation escalated as Watts allegedly became physically aggressive and bit one of the officers on the left arm, causing bodily injury.
It was determined that Shyann Watts intentionally and knowingly assaulted the officer while the officer was lawfully discharging an official duty. Following the incident, Watts was taken into custody and subsequently transported to Hopkins County Jail.
Shyann R. Watts faces a charge of assault on a public servant in connection with the incident.
