The Greenville Police Department has an opportunity for youth to attend the state required Hunter Education Certification Course before youth rifle deer season starts. The two-day class will be October 19th and October 20th.
The two-day course is for youth age 9-17. On day 1 students will arrive at the Greenville Police Department (3000 Lee St.) at 8:45 am and classroom instruction will be given in the community room on the 2nd floor. Lunch will be provided for the students and class typically ends at 4:00 pm.
On day 2, students will arrive at the Greenville Police Department Range located at 376 Co Rd 2146, Greenville, TX 75402 at 8:00 a.m. Range Day will consist of a live fire event along with hands on skills practical's learned from the classroom portion. Students will need to dress appropriate for the weather and will need to wear long pants and closed footwear for the field portion. Water and breakfast will be provided by the Greenville Police Department. There is no seating at the range so if you want to bring a folding chair you can do so. Remember that it can still be hot this time of the year in Texas so drink plenty of water the night before the field day portion to help prevent de-hydration. No personal firearms are permitted in both classroom and on the range. The only firearms that will be permitted are those that are supplied by the Greenville Police Department under the direction of the Range Officer.
Students must attend both days to receive credit and certification for Hunter Education.
Cost of class is $15.00. Please bring exact change and we do not accept credit cards. The $15.00 covers State Certification, snacks, drinks, lunch, and a Greenville Police Department Hunter Education Graduate Shirt.
