Shortly after 10 p.m. on the evening of August 15, 2023, Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to come to a complete stop at the intersection of Mill and Main St in Cumby.

While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, Deputies observed the driver, identified as Bradford Jones, to display signs of nervousness such as failure to maintain eye contact and being deceptive about his story.

Deputies were granted consent to search the vehicle and asked Jones to exit the vehicle for a pat-down search. During the pat-down, the Deputy observed what appeared to be a baggie. Jones removed the items from his pockets which included a plastic baggie containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Jones was taken into custody and transported to Hopkins County Jail. The crystal-like substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 0.2 grams.

It was also determined that the location of the offense occurred 627 feet from Cumby High School, a Drug Free Zone.

Bradford Jones, 52, of Cumby, was booked into Hopkins County Jail on the charge of possessing a controlled substance (methamphetamine) within a Drug-Free Zone.
