On Tuesday, August 16, 2023, Hopkins County Sheriff deputies received crucial information about the potential endangerment of children and ongoing child exploitation activities, including online involvement by an adult individual. Responding swiftly, authorities launched an immediate investigation into the matter, leading them to a possible suspect location in Franklin County.
Hopkins County Investigators promptly acted upon the information, arriving at the identified location where they successfully located and apprehended the suspect. The suspect, identified as Billy Joe Truss, a 33-year-old male, was taken into custody without incident while he was outside his residence. This quick and decisive action ensured the safety of potential victims, the community, and the responding law enforcement officers.
The collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies played a crucial role in resolving this harrowing situation. Hopkins County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) rapidly analyzed the provided data, traced various leads to a specific address, and coordinated with Franklin County authorities, including assistance from the Franklin County Water District Police. As a result of their coordinated efforts, child victim(s) were rescued from severe crimes related to exploitation.
Billy Joe Truss now faces a series of serious charges pending arraignment, including aggravated sexual assault of a child, sexual performance by a child, and promotion of child pornography. Law enforcement officials obtained search warrants, allowing them to seize items, including electronic devices, from the suspect's location. The investigation remains ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges being filed.
