In a recent incident, a traffic stop conducted by a Hopkins County Sheriff's Deputy on the evening of August 14, 2023, led to the arrest of Andrea McMillan, a 38-year-old resident of Sulphur Springs. The deputy initiated the stop due to an obstructed license plate and expired registration on the vehicle. During the stop, McMillan displayed behavior such as avoiding eye contact, frequent movement, and apparent eagerness for law enforcement to conclude their investigation.
Upon obtaining McMillan's consent to search her purse and vehicle, the deputy discovered a clear baggie containing a crystal-like residue believed to be methamphetamine. Subsequently, McMillan was taken into custody. While in custody, McMillan admitted to having a syringe concealed on her person. She was allowed to retrieve the syringe and place it on the hood of the patrol car for inspection. The syringe was found to contain approximately 26 ml of suspected methamphetamine.
As a result of the findings, McMillan was transported to the Hopkins County Jail and booked on a charge of Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1 < 1G.
