COMMERCE, Texas - Multiple people were wounded in an early-morning shooting at a party in northeast Commerce, prompting a response from local police, university officers and the Texas Rangers.
Commerce police responded to the shooting at approximately 3:26 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Police said the shooting occurred at a party in the northeast part of the city and was not on the campus of East Texas A&M University.
Multiple people suffered gunshot wounds and were receiving medical treatment, according to police. Authorities have not released the number of people injured, their identities or information about their conditions.
Commerce police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there was no longer an active threat to the community.
Investigators were working to determine what led to the gunfire and the involvement of those connected to the incident.
Although the shooting occurred off campus, the East Texas A&M University Police Department is assisting Commerce police with the investigation. The Texas Rangers are also providing resources.
Police have not released information about a possible suspect, arrests or the specific location of the party. Authorities said additional details are being withheld while the investigation remains active.
