GREENVILLE, Texas - Greenville residents looking to cut electricity use and improve their home's energy efficiency may be eligible for rebates through the GEUS Energy Efficiency Rebate Program.
The program provides GEUS customers with account credits for qualifying energy-efficient purchases, ranging from refrigerators and window air conditioners to LED lighting, programmable thermostats and attic insulation.
Customers must provide proof of purchase within six months of the purchase date. Rebates are applied as a credit to the GEUS account for the property where the qualifying appliance or improvement is installed.
For Energy Star-certified appliances, GEUS offers a $75 rebate for refrigerators, $50 for dishwashers and $25 for freezers.
Customers purchasing high-efficiency window air conditioners can receive a $50 rebate. A high-efficiency window air conditioning unit equipped with a heat pump qualifies for a substantially larger $250 rebate.
Lighting purchases are also covered. GEUS will rebate half the cost of qualifying LED bulb purchases, up to $25. Commercial customers considering lighting fixture upgrades must receive approval from GEUS before making the improvements, and rebates depend on available program funding.
For holiday lighting, customers can receive 25% of the purchase price of new LED holiday lights, excluding sales tax. The holiday lighting rebate is limited to $50 per account each year.
GEUS also offers a rebate for programmable thermostats. Customers can receive $30 for a thermostat rated as a 5-2 programmable model or better. The incentive is limited to one thermostat per home every five years.
Homeowners adding attic insulation can receive 16 cents per square foot, with a maximum rebate of $300 per account.
GEUS said the program is intended to reduce customers' electricity costs while also lowering the amount of additional power the municipal utility needs to generate.
