GREENVILLE, Texas — The Greenville Police Department is notifying residents that unclaimed property currently held in its evidence and storage facilities may soon be disposed of if not claimed within the legally required timeframes.
The notification is being issued in accordance with the Texas Constitution, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 18.17, and Greenville Police Department policies regarding found and abandoned property.
According to the department, found property will be eligible for disposal if not claimed by the verified owner within 30 days, while abandoned property may be disposed of after 90 days.
A complete list of property currently scheduled for disposal, along with disposal dates, is available on the Greenville Police Department's website.
Individuals seeking to reclaim property must provide proof of ownership before any items can be released.
Property owners can contact the Greenville Police Department Property Room, located at 3000 Lee Street, to inquire about reclaiming items.
Property Technician Mark Gray can be reached at 903-457-2903 or by email at MGray@greenvilletx.gov.
Property Technician Holly Lipsey can be reached at 903-457-2926 or by email at HLipsey@greenvilletx.gov.
The department noted that additional requirements apply to firearms. Before any firearm can be released, a criminal background check must be completed. If a firearm was collected as evidence or connected to a criminal case, a final disposition or court order must be obtained before the background check process can begin.
Individuals requesting a firearm release must provide their full name, phone number, date of birth, state of birth, and Social Security number to the property technicians so the required background check can be conducted.
Police encourage anyone who believes they may have property being held by the department to contact the Property Room before the disposal deadlines expire.
