SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas — Human remains discovered in Hopkins County earlier this year have been identified as a Dallas man who had been reported missing, and investigators say additional charges are expected as the case continues.

According to the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, human remains found on Mark Street on May 2, 2026, were sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for examination.

Through DNA analysis, the remains were positively identified as Dennis Damont Weems Jr., 26, also known as "Cadillac" or "Jr."

Investigators said Weems was last seen in the Dallas area on Feb. 1, 2026. Family members reported him missing to the Dallas Police Department after losing contact with him.

During the investigation, the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office obtained an arrest warrant for 25-year-old Devarrius Damontre Richardson on a charge of Abuse of a Corpse.

Authorities noted that Richardson had also been reported missing after he was last seen in Log Cabin, Texas, on Feb. 2, 2026. At the time, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office and Log Cabin Police Department sought the public's assistance in locating him.

Law enforcement officials later tracked Richardson to Anchorage, Alaska, where he was arrested by federal authorities.

Richardson was extradited back to Texas and booked into the Hopkins County Jail on June 12. His bond was set at $500,000.

Investigators said the case remains active and is being conducted in coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding Weems' death, but officials stated that additional charges are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
