HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas - The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office is investigating a family violence shooting that left one person critically injured Monday in Hopkins County.
Deputies responded May 25 to a residence along Highway 11 West after receiving reports of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they found a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities said deputies immediately began providing lifesaving medical aid until EMS personnel arrived at the scene.
The victim was later airlifted to a Dallas-Fort Worth area hospital for advanced treatment.
Investigators said the suspect was detained at the scene without incident.
During an interview with detectives, the suspect admitted to becoming involved in a physical altercation with the victim before shooting the victim multiple times with a shotgun.
The suspect was booked into the Hopkins County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault involving a dating, family, or household member with a weapon, a first-degree felony.
Authorities said the identities of those involved are being withheld to protect the privacy and safety of the victim.
The investigation remains ongoing.
