Homeowner Shoots Intruder After Glass Door Forced Open in Hopkins County

HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting Tuesday after a homeowner allegedly shot a man who broke through the front door of a residence in northern Hopkins County.

According to the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, deputies and investigators responded May 12, 2026, following reports of a shooting at a residence in the northern part of the county.

Investigators reviewed footage from a Ring doorbell camera that allegedly showed a man identified as Buck Clary striking the home’s glass front door while yelling.

Authorities said Clary eventually broke part of the glass door and reached inside the residence.

Investigators said the homeowner then fired a gun through the door, striking Clary.

Clary was transported by Hopkins County EMS to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by a justice of the peace.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active and ongoing. No additional details have been released.
