GREENVILLE, Texas — The Greenville Police Department, in partnership with the Greenville ISD Police Department, is now accepting registrations for its annual summer Kids Camp program.
The free camp is open to students who have completed fifth grade and are entering sixth grade. It will run June 1 through June 5 at Travis Intermediate School from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Organizers say the camp is designed to help students build positive relationships with law enforcement and first responders while participating in a variety of activities. Campers will take part in games such as dodgeball, kickball and gaga ball, as well as interactive experiences including meeting K-9 units and cooling off with local fire crews.
In addition to recreational activities, students will learn about topics including drug and alcohol awareness, anti-bullying, internet safety, gun safety, first aid and basic crime scene investigation techniques.
Participants will be supervised at all times by police officers and trained volunteers. Lunch will be provided daily, and breakfast will be available from 7:30 to 8 a.m.
Students are encouraged to bring a hat, sunscreen and a towel, and to wear shorts due to the summer heat. Each camper will receive a team shirt on the first day, which must be worn daily for identification.
The program is open to students from Greenville ISD, Greenville Christian School, Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy and homeschool programs.
The registration deadline is May 15. To register, visit and download forms at https://greenvilletx.gov/1268/Kids-Camp. For more information contact Officer Hamilton at jhamilton@greenvilletx.gov.
Organizers noted that no confirmation letters will be sent, and registered participants should report to the first day of camp as scheduled.
