HUNT COUNTY, Texas — Voters across Hunt County made decisions in several municipal and school races during the May 2 election, with a mix of decisive wins and upcoming runoffs.
In Greenville, Larry P. Davis won City Council Place 4 with 65.15% of the vote (43 votes), defeating Bryce A. Berry, who received 34.85% (23 votes).
For Greenville ISD Trustee Place 4, Byron L. Smith secured the seat with 59.78% (107 votes), ahead of Tish Woodruff with 28.49% (51 votes) and Bruce V. Hinchey with 11.73% (21 votes).
Greenville voters also weighed in on six city propositions. Propositions A, B, C, E and F passed by wide margins, while Proposition D failed.
- Proposition A (annexation authority): Passed with 89.21%
- Proposition B (filling council vacancies): Passed with 91.15%
- Proposition C (eminent domain updates): Passed with 93.82%
- Proposition D (removing term limits): Failed with 71.29% opposed
- Proposition E (declaring unopposed candidates elected): Passed with 62.38%
- Proposition F (voter approval for sale of utilities): Passed with 94.74%
In Hawk Cove, Darren Evans was elected mayor unopposed. For City Council Place 2, Kenneth Cork won with 54.10% (33 votes), defeating Delores Spence. In Place 4, Henry Butcher narrowly edged Jason Oesch with 50.82% (31 votes) to 49.18% (30 votes).
Josephine voters approved Proposition A allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages, with 77.88% voting in favor.
In Wolfe City, the City Council race will head to a runoff after no candidate received a majority. Leading vote-getters were Rusty Shreves (23.36%) and Ian Martinez (20.73%), followed closely by Brad Moore (20.21%).
Community ISD races saw Joshua Edwards win Place 1 with 65%, Devin Dowdy take Place 4 with 60%, and Jana Hunter win Place 5 with 70%. The Place 6 race did not produce a majority winner, with Alfonso Calderon leading at 50%, followed by Tony Denton at 45% and Chad D. Baugh at 5%.
In Lone Oak ISD, the Trustee race will also go to a runoff, with Lee Hogue (44.87%) and Clint Patterson (42.59%) advancing.
Quinlan ISD results included Eric Kleiber winning Place 6 unopposed, while Colton Mosley won Place 7 with 59.02% (108 votes).
In Celeste, voters narrowly approved Proposition A, a bond measure for school facilities and infrastructure, with 55.56% voting in favor.
Election officials said final certification will follow canvassing procedures, with runoff election dates expected to be announced soon.
