Royse City Police Department Investigating a Double Fatality Collision on Eastbound IH30

A devastating accident on Monday morning has left two people dead and caused a major closure of IH30 Eastbound at FM 35. The Royse City Police Department and the Royse City Fire Department rushed to the scene at 8:27 am after receiving reports of the collision.

The incident involved an 18-wheeler traveling westbound that inexplicably veered into the eastbound lanes of IH30, resulting in a collision with three passenger cars. The impact was so severe that one of the passenger cars burst into flames, with the fire engulfing the vehicle before first responders could arrive.

Tragically, two individuals lost their lives in the passenger car that caught fire. The identities of the victims remain unknown at this time. The Royse City Police Department Traffic Collision Unit has taken charge of the investigation, with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office.

In the aftermath of the collision, IH30 Eastbound has been closed between FM35 and FM2642. Authorities expect the closure to last for several hours as they conduct a thorough investigation into the accident and initiate cleanup efforts. The collision has also caused significant traffic congestion throughout the area, with traffic on Hwy 66 through town experiencing heavy delays, particularly for those headed east.

As of 11 am, some relief has come to westbound IH30 traffic, which has been reopened. However, the eastbound lanes of IH30 between FM35 and FM2642 will remain closed for the ongoing investigation. To alleviate some of the traffic congestion, the Eastbound IH30 Service Road between FM35 and FM2642 has been opened for eastbound traffic.
