Spring Break Crackdown: Commerce Police Stop 69 Vehicles in DUI Enforcement Effort

COMMERCE, Texas - The Commerce Police Department increased traffic enforcement efforts during spring break as part of a statewide initiative aimed at reducing drunk driving and improving roadway safety.

According to the department, officers worked additional shifts during the enforcement period, increasing their presence on local roadways.

As a result, officers conducted 69 traffic stops. From those stops, police issued 16 citations, 67 warnings, and made two arrests.

The initiative comes as officials highlight ongoing concerns about impaired driving. In 2025, Texas recorded 22,087 alcohol-related crashes, resulting in 865 fatalities, according to data from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Police emphasized that drunk driving crashes are preventable and encouraged drivers to plan ahead by using a designated driver, rideshare service, taxi, public transportation, or waiting until sober before driving.

The department said the enforcement effort is part of its continued commitment to reducing injury and fatality crashes and keeping roadways safe.
