HEMPHILL, Texas - Sabine County authorities are searching for a man believed to be armed and dangerous after a reported shooting Sunday night on Bronson Cemetery Road left another man missing, according to the Sabine County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 8:15 p.m., a Sabine County deputy received information about a shooting at a residence in the area. Deputies responding to the scene located a small pool of blood in the driveway but found no individuals present.
Investigators later located two witnesses who reported that Todd Stevens, 36, of Bronson, allegedly shot a man identified as Cody Thompson, 43, of Burkeville. Witnesses told deputies that after the shooting, Stevens placed Thompson into Thompson’s own vehicle and left the scene with him still inside.
Authorities said Thompson’s condition remains unknown. No hospitals reported treating a gunshot victim matching Thompson’s description overnight.
Deputies are attempting to locate Thompson’s vehicle, described as a white extended cab Chevrolet pickup truck from the 1990s. The truck reportedly has primer on the passenger side, body filler on the roof above the passenger door, a bright yellow spray-painted tailgate, and may be displaying a temporary Texas license plate. Investigators said the vehicle’s license plates had been removed prior to the incident.
A search warrant executed early Monday morning at the scene resulted in the collection of several items consistent with witness statements, officials said.
The Sabine County Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking arrest warrants for Stevens and considers him armed and dangerous. Authorities urge residents not to approach him and to contact law enforcement immediately if he is located.
Anyone with information about Stevens, Thompson, or the vehicle is asked to contact the Sabine County Sheriff’s Office at (409) 787-2266 or notify local law enforcement.
