GREENVILLE, Texas - The Greenville Police Department is warning residents about an ongoing phone scam in which callers falsely claim to be law enforcement officers and request money from victims.
Police said they continue to receive reports of individuals posing as “Lieutenant Brandon West” with the Greenville Police Department. Callers tell victims they have missed a court date and must send funds to resolve the issue.
Authorities said scammers are using legitimate police telephone numbers, including reports of calls appearing to come from 903-443-6614, to make the calls seem credible. Officials noted that such information can be easily obtained through publicly available sources such as social media pages or department websites.
The Greenville Police Department emphasized that officers do not solicit payments, personal information, or financial details by phone.
Residents who receive calls from individuals claiming to be police officers requesting money or sensitive information are advised to treat the contact as fraudulent.
Anyone who has experienced a similar call in Greenville is asked to report the incident to the Greenville Police Department at (903) 457-2900.
