Hopkins County Woman Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charge After Dog Found Killed South of Brashear

BRASHEAR, TX - On December 21, 2025, deputies with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of animal cruelty south of Brashear. Upon investigation, deputies determined that a dog had been killed, and evidence pointed to Kristine Michelle Hicks as the responsible party.

Hicks was taken into custody the same day and charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal, including killing or poisoning. She was also charged with Possession of Marijuana between 4 oz and 5 lbs.  

The case remains under investigation, and state and federal agencies have been contacted for assistance.

The sheriff’s office cautions the public that social media posts related to the incident may contain unverified information and asks anyone with relevant tips or evidence to contact authorities.
