LUFKIN, Texas—A Lufkin man has pleaded guilty to a federal firearms violation, Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced.
Michael Antoine Lovelady, 53, pleaded guilty on August 14, 2025, to being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to court information, Lovelady was arrested during a traffic stop on March 14, 2025, for outstanding warrants. During the arrest, he attempted to flee, and a firearm was found in his waistband after he was apprehended. An investigation revealed Lovelady is a convicted felon, which prohibits him from owning or possessing firearms.
Lovelady was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 15, 2025. He faces up to 15 years in federal prison. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after a presentence investigation is completed.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Lufkin Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald S. Carter.
