In a shocking turn of events, a police sergeant from Alba, Texas, was arrested on Wednesday for multiple charges, including aggravated assault and kidnapping. The suspect, identified as 46-year-old David Tipps, allegedly assaulted a couple after picking up a female who was involved in a disturbance.
The incident unfolded when Hopkins County deputies received a distress call reporting a disturbance on CR 1149, south of the Miller Grove community. According to the caller, he and his wife were assaulted by Tipps after they picked up a female who had been involved in the aforementioned disturbance.
As per the caller's account, David Tipps spotted the couple's vehicle, in which his spouse was a passenger, and intentionally rammed it with his own vehicle. The impact forced the victim's vehicle into a ditch. Reportedly, Tipps then approached the victims while brandishing a firearm and ordered all occupants to remain inside. He subsequently removed his spouse from the vehicle against her will and fled the scene with her in his own vehicle.
Fortunately, deputies swiftly located the suspect and the abducted spouse at their residence. To ensure the safety of the law enforcement officers involved, Tipps was directed to walk backward towards them with his hands on his head. He was then handcuffed and informed of his rights before being detained for further investigation.
During the subsequent interview, Tipps confessed to his actions, leading to his arrest on the following charges: three counts of aggravated assault with a weapon (vehicle), two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon (firearm), and one count of aggravated kidnapping. Shockingly, the arrest report revealed that David Tipps was an Alba, TX police officer employed as a Police Sergeant.
The Alba Police Department's website confirmed that a David Tipps was listed as a member of their force. As the investigation continues, authorities are working diligently to gather more information and uncover the motives behind Tipps' alleged criminal behavior.
