On January 11, 2025, at approximately 5:14 PM, a DPS Trooper responded to a single-vehicle accident on SH-19, south of CR 1106, during a winter storm.
The driver, identified as Constancio Benites Ramos, claimed he lost control of his vehicle due to icy road conditions and drove through a fence. However, the road was observed to be dry at the time of the crash. Ramos exhibited unsteady behavior and swaying as he interacted with the trooper.
The trooper noticed a case of Bud Light beer and several empty cans approximately 50 yards from the vehicle. Although Ramos denied removing the beer case from his car, he admitted to consuming alcohol, initially stating he had two beers but later increasing that number to 4-5. Additional empty cans matching those found in the field were located inside the vehicle.
Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were conducted, and Ramos showed signs of intoxication. He was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated - 3rd Offense or More, as well as Driving While License Invalid due to previous convictions.
A blood test was conducted to confirm his intoxication level, and Ramos was transported to the Hopkins County Jail.
