A 46-year-old Mount Vernon man was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) after a traffic stop on January 11, 2025, revealed signs of intoxication. The arrest occurred at approximately 10:02 AM when an officer with the Sulphur Springs Police Department initiated the stop due to a traffic violation.
The driver, identified as Terry Lonce Williams, admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages before operating the vehicle. Signs of intoxication were evident during the interaction. Despite the officer performing a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, Williams refused to complete the Walk and Turn and One Leg Stand tests. Based on his erratic behavior, admissions, and the results of the HGN test, the officer placed Williams under arrest for DWI.
During the stop, Williams was found to have three children under the age of 15 in the vehicle. After arresting Williams and securing him in double-locking handcuffs, the officer provided the statutory DIC-24 warning and requested a blood sample, which Williams refused.
The officer transported Williams to the Hopkins County Jail, where the children and vehicle were released to a family member. A blood search warrant was later obtained and approved by Judge John Ginn. Williams was taken to Christus Mother Francis Hospital for the blood draw, which was conducted without incident before he was returned to the jail.
