Firefighters from Greenville Fire-Rescue have joined strike teams from Allen Fire Department, Frisco Fire Department, McKinney Fire Department, Dallas Fire-Rescue, and Parker County Emergency Services District #1 in responding to the deadly wildfires ravaging Southern California. The teams departed Texas to provide critical support to overwhelmed California fire departments.
The wildfires, which have consumed more than 39,000 acres in the greater Los Angeles area, have claimed at least 13 lives and destroyed over 12,000 structures, leaving entire communities in ruins. California firefighters, stretched thin and facing immense challenges, welcomed the reinforcements.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has called for an independent investigation into the reported loss of water pressure to local fire hydrants and the unavailability of water from the Santa Ynez Reservoir, issues that have hindered firefighting efforts.
The Texas strike teams will assist with containment efforts, relief operations, and community support. Greenville Fire-Rescue expressed gratitude for the opportunity to aid those in need and urged the public to keep all first responders in their thoughts as they work to combat the ongoing crisis.
Updates on the situation will be provided as more information becomes available.
