Repeat Offender from Fort Worth Arrested for DWI in Sulphur Springs

In a late evening arrest on July 4, 2023, Sulphur Springs Police Department officers apprehended a Fort Worth man after he was reported as a reckless driver. The incident took place shortly after 7:30 pm in the 100 block of West Industrial.

The driver, identified as Tommy Jerold Hutchings Jr, 51, displayed multiple signs of intoxication, including the odor of an alcoholic beverage, bloodshot and glassy eyes, as well as slurred speech. Concerned for public safety, officers proceeded to conduct Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, leading them to make the probable cause determination that Hutchings was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Following their investigation, law enforcement officials took Hutchings into custody and duly read him his DIC-24 warning, which outlines the consequences of refusing a blood alcohol content (BAC) test. Hutchings voluntarily consented to a blood specimen test and was subsequently transported to Christus Mother Frances hospital for the procedure. After the blood draw, he was further transported to Hopkins County Jail.

Tommy Hutchings Jr now faces a charge of DWI 3rd or More (F3) due to his previous convictions for driving while intoxicated. Having three prior DWI convictions heightened the severity of the charge against him. Hutchings' history of drunk driving has clearly drawn concern from authorities, as repeat offenses can lead to increased penalties under Texas law.
