An off-duty Dallas police officer died in a motorcycle crash on Tuesday, January 7, on State Highway 276, about 1.5 miles south of Union Valley, Texas.

According to Texas DPS troopers, 29-year-old Officer Gabriel Bixby, a resident of Quinlan, was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound when an eastbound Honda Accord turned in front of him, causing the collision.

The driver of the Accord, 85-year-old Frank James, was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries. Preliminary investigations indicate James failed to yield the right of way.  No charges have been filed yet.

Officer Bixby was pronounced dead at the scene. He had served with the Dallas Police Department since 2018 and was assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division. A graduate of East Texas A&M University, Bixby was also a member of the Gunslingers Motorcycle Club.
