Hunt County Man Arrested After Disturbance and Standoff with Law Enforcement

A man was taken into custody by the Hunt County Sheriff's Office after a disturbing incident and subsequent standoff on July 1, 2023. The incident, which involved a family disturbance and the threat of violence, unfolded in the 9800 block of Hunt County Road 2469.

According to authorities, at approximately 5:55 pm, deputies responded to a call regarding a family dispute at the residence. Upon arrival, they discovered that a husband and wife had engaged in a heated verbal argument. The situation escalated when the husband gained access to a handgun and discharged a single round. Frightened for her safety, the wife was then pushed to the ground by the suspect. Before deputies arrived, the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle.

Later that evening, at around 8:20 pm, a second call was made to the Hunt County Sheriff's Office from the same residence. The caller reported that the suspect had returned and had barricaded himself inside a nearby shop, refusing to cooperate with law enforcement. Multiple attempts were made to establish communication with the suspect, but he remained unresponsive.

In response to the escalating situation, the Hunt County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team, along with members of the Criminal Investigation Division, was dispatched to the scene. Authorities obtained an arrest warrant and search warrant for the suspect's residence, intending to enter the shop and apprehend him to prevent any further violence.

The SWAT Team conducted a carefully planned operation and successfully took the suspect into custody without any additional incidents of violence. The suspect was then transported to the Hunt County Jail, where he currently remains. He is facing charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
