Two Suspects Arrested Following High-Speed Chase and Drug Seizure in Sulphur Springs

Lenzie Foley and Elizabeth Cadena

In the early morning hours of June 30, 2023, a routine traffic stop escalated into a high-speed chase and resulted in the arrest of two individuals on multiple charges related to drug possession and evading arrest. The incident unfolded on N Hillcrest Dr. in Sulphur Springs and concluded in Delta County on Highway 224 near CR 4220.

At approximately 2:23 am, a vigilant officer from the Sulphur Springs Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling in the 900 block of N Hillcrest Dr. As the officer activated the emergency lights, the suspect vehicle quickly pulled over to the shoulder. However, to the officer's surprise, a white bag was tossed out of the passenger side before the vehicle accelerated, fleeing the scene in a northward direction along Hillcrest Dr.

Undeterred, law enforcement officers engaged in a pursuit that continued into Delta County. With the assistance of stop sticks deployed by pursuing officers, the suspect vehicle was successfully immobilized, bringing the chase to an end on Highway 224 near CR 4220.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 28-year-old Lenzie Foley from Quitman, while the passenger was identified as 21-year-old Elizabeth Cadena, a resident of Sulphur Springs. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered two small bags containing approximately 18 grams of a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana.

Following the arrest, Foley was read his Miranda Rights and claimed no knowledge of the drugs found in the vehicle. Cadena, on the other hand, exercised her right to remain silent and refused to answer any questions posed by law enforcement.

Later on, a Hopkins County Sheriff's deputy located an additional bag of a similar green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the vicinity where Foley and Cadena had discarded contraband out of the passenger window during the pursuit.

Lenzie Foley was subsequently booked into the Hopkins County Jail on charges including Evading Arrest or Detention using a Vehicle (F3), Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence (F3), and Possession of Marijuana less than 2 ounces (MB). Elizabeth Cadena also faced charges of Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence (F3) and Possession of Marijuana less than 2 ounces (MB).

Both Foley and Cadena will await further legal proceedings while in custody at the Hopkins County Jail.
