In a routine traffic stop on Wednesday evening, a 17-year-old driver was arrested by the Sulphur Springs Police Department after a significant quantity of drugs, a stolen firearm, and an unlawful weapon were discovered in his possession.

Just before 9:30 pm on June 30, an officer from the Sulphur Springs Police Department pulled over a vehicle in the 700 block of Calvert St for driving without headlights. The driver was identified as Rogelio Cruz, a resident of Sulphur Springs. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer immediately noticed a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, suspected to be marijuana, in plain view.

Following this observation, the officer proceeded to conduct a probable cause search of the vehicle. The search yielded alarming results, as nine THC pens, each containing 2 grams of THC, were discovered. Additionally, a glass jar believed to contain THC wax, weighing approximately 121 grams, was found. A firearm was also uncovered during the search, and further investigation revealed that its serial number matched that of a reported stolen firearm.

The search continued, resulting in the discovery of a large plastic bag containing what appeared to be marijuana, along with the original smaller bag. The total weight of the confiscated marijuana amounted to 15.75 ounces.

Authorities promptly apprehended Rogelio Cruz and transported him to the Hopkins County Jail. He was subsequently booked on several charges, including Possession of Controlled Substance PG2 (between 4 grams and 400 grams), Theft of a Firearm, Possession of Marijuana (between 4 ounces and 5 pounds) within a Drug-Free Zone, and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.

The Sulphur Springs Police Department is working diligently to ensure the safe handling and processing of the evidence. The stolen firearm's information was immediately relayed to Sulphur Springs dispatch, who confirmed its status as a stolen item.
