Suspect Arrested for Harassing Dispatchers and Resisting Arrest in Sulphur Springs Incident

Ricardo Santana

In the late hours of June 30, 2023, the Sulphur Springs Police Department swiftly responded to a distressing situation at the Royal Inn, following reports of a subject making harassing statements to dispatchers after dialing 911 for a non-emergency. The incident resulted in the arrest of 19-year-old Ricardo Santana, a resident of Brown, Texas.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers encountered Santana and immediately issued verbal commands, notifying him that he was under arrest. However, instead of complying with the officers' instructions, Santana began to back away while pulling his arms away, tensing his body, and attempting to conceal his arms from the law enforcement personnel.

Despite Santana's resistance, the officers persisted in their efforts to apprehend him. With determination, they managed to place Santana in handcuffs, successfully subduing his resistance. Following his arrest, Santana was then transported to Hopkins County Jail, where he was booked on multiple charges related to the incident.

Ricardo Santana is now facing the following charges:

  1. Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transport: This charge pertains to Santana's refusal to comply with the lawful orders given by the officers during his arrest. It is a serious offense that carries legal consequences.

  2. Silent or Abusive Calls to 911 Service: Santana is also facing charges for making inappropriate and harassing statements to emergency dispatchers after dialing 911 for a non-emergency. Such calls place an unnecessary burden on emergency services and can potentially divert resources away from genuine emergencies.
