In a routine traffic stop on State Highway 19, a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper made a startling discovery when the driver discarded a small marijuana blunt out the window. The incident took place shortly after 3:30 pm, leading to the arrest of the driver, identified as Shonteonia Burns.

The DPS trooper initiated the traffic stop after noticing that the vehicle had an improperly placed license plate. As the trooper approached the vehicle and engaged in conversation with Burns, she hastily disposed of a small marijuana blunt through the driver's side window. Burns also admitted to possessing a marijuana grinder inside her vehicle.

In response to the driver's actions, the DPS trooper proceeded to conduct a probable cause search. The search led to the discovery of a large plastic bag containing three additional blunts, all of which were found to contain a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. The combined weight of the green leafy substance was estimated to be approximately 0.92 ounces.

Subsequently, Burns was taken into custody at the scene of the traffic stop. At her request, her vehicle was released to another individual present at the scene. The DPS trooper then transported Burns to the Hopkins County Jail, where she was officially booked on charges of possession of marijuana under 2 ounces, classified as a misdemeanor offense.
