Como-Pickton CISD has completed a year-long reconstruction project after a devastating tornado struck in June 2023, destroying the district’s fieldhouse, football field, and part of the school. On November 11, the district held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the reopening of the new fieldhouse at Eagle Stadium, dedicating the facility to longtime educator and coach Lonnie Lee Niblett, who served Como-Pickton CISD for over 30 years.
Lonnie Niblett’s wife and his daughter, Candace Niblett Plaza, attended the ceremony, with Candace cutting the ribbon in her father’s honor. "We especially thank Mrs. Candace Plaza for honoring us by cutting the ribbon in honor of her dad and for Mrs. Niblett and her support," the district stated.
