Sulphur Springs police were involved in a vehicle pursuit on Friday morning. The chase ended when the suspect crashed on Pipeline Road between North Jackson Street and East Loop 301. The suspect fled on foot, and multiple agencies participated in the search. He was taken into custody later that afternoon.
The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Mark Houston Burkeen, Jr. of Austin. He has been charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle and is currently being held in the Hopkins County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
Burkeen has a prior criminal record involving drug possession, family violence, and aggravated kidnapping in Travis County. The investigation is ongoing.
