On Thursday, August 22nd, the Commerce ISD Police Department conducted a narcotics inspection across school campuses with the assistance of a certified K9 unit. The dog performed an open-air sniff to detect the presence of illegal narcotics.
The Commerce ISD Police Department has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy regarding narcotics on school grounds. The department confirmed that no drugs were found during the inspection. Students have been informed that the narcotics K9 will continue to make random visits throughout the school year as a preventative measure.
In addition to the K9 inspections, the implementation of the clear bag policy has been credited with discouraging illegal behavior on campus. The Commerce ISD Police Department emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment for all students and stated that it will continue using every available tool to ensure safety daily.
