On Saturday, August 17th, Hopkins County Deputies were dispatched to a home in Sulphur Springs following a report of a disturbance involving a male and female. The female reported that the male had struck her in the face.
Upon arrival, the deputies spoke with the complainant, who informed them that the male was locked in the back seat of her vehicle after he attempted to escape when she mentioned calling the police. The deputies approached the male, who was hesitant to leave the vehicle. Once he exited, it was apparent that he was significantly intoxicated. As the deputy attempted to place him in handcuffs, the male tried to pull away. The deputy then secured him against the vehicle and successfully restrained him.
The male was placed in the back of the patrol car. After gathering statements from the victim and a witness, the deputy informed the male of his rights, including the Miranda Warning, and conducted an interview. Throughout the questioning, the male struggled to articulate his words and maintain eye contact. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County Jail.
Gaudencio Barrios-Chavez was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member.
