Sulphur Springs Man Arrested for Distributing $20 Fatal Fentanyl Pill to Overdose Victim

The Sulphur Springs Police Department Special Crimes Unit and Hopkins County Sheriff's Office Texas conducted a joint investigation on June 8, 2023 in regards to a blue M30 Fentanyl pill which was sold to a victim who overdosed and is still currently hospitalized. The investigation lead investigators to the residence of Cashius Hernandez, 26, of Sulphur Springs at which time a consent search was conducted and Hernandez was arrested for drug paraphernalia.

After the arrest and Miranda Warning, Hernandez confessed to delivering the Fentanyl pill to the victim for $20, confessed to tampering with the additional Fentanyl pill he had purchased by flushing it, and also confessed to a usable amount of THC Wax that was located at his residence.

26-year-old Cashius Antonio Hernandez of Sulphur Springs was booked into Hopkins County Jail on the following charges:

  1. Manufacturing/Delivering Controlled Substance PG1-B <1G Drug Free Zone w/ Serious Bodily Injury or Death (F3)
  2. Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence (F3)
  3. Possession of Controlled Substance PG2 <1G (SJF)

This is not the first time Hernandez has been in Hopkins County Jail. On April 12, 2023 Sulphur Springs Police responded to the Sulphur Springs Municipal Court to pick up Cashius Antonio Hernandez. He was transported to jail on a third no driver’s license charge, following another vehicle too closely and speeding charges.

According to his facebook profile, Hernandez is a father of at least three children.  It is tragic that this family man is involved in drug dealing and now may face significant jail time.
